How To Email2Log What to do when you forget to use this killer JibberJobber feature I recently got an email from a user asking something to this effect: What can I do when I forget to use the Email2Log when I sent someone an email? Do I have to copy and paste the email into a Log Entry now? I dont think Ive addressed this in a blog post before. This is a great enhancement to your workflow, and it doesnt require copy and paste. Heres a scenario: Identify the email I want to get into JibberJobber. I send have an email in my inbox (that I am not going to reply to), or my sent box (that I already sent, and forgot to use Email2Log OOPS!). Send the email to JibberJobber. Now you simply FOWARD the email to your ultra-secretive Email2Log email address. You dont have to send it to anyone else. just your Email2Log address and make sure there is a line anywhere in the email that says contacts:[emailaddress] Note that you can have multiple email addresses there (as well as names, to create new Contacts). See the images below on how I do this quickly and easily from an email in my inbox. It is as EASY as that! (pictures below) Remember, what we are doing here is (a) taking the email and making it a Log Entry under every record that matches an email address in the contacts:______,______,etc. line, and (b) creating new Contact records for those email addresses that dont match an existing Contact records. In other words, lets say I get an email from someone (a recruiter) who is not in my JibberJobber database, and she ccs 3 other people (2 colleagues and the hiring manager at a company). I reply back saying Id love to come into an interview on Thursday thank you! But OOPS, I forgot to bcc my Email2Log email address do I have to go into JibberJobber and manually (1) enter four new Contact records, and then (2) copy and paste the email thread to each of those four new records? Ugh that will take like 10 minutes Well, there is a much easier, faster, convenient way to create those new Contacts, and Log Entries! Heres how (Im using an email I sent to myself yesterday as the oops email): Step 1: Just forward the email to your Email2Log address Step 2: Put Contacts: on any line (I do the first line, but it can be anywhere (even after the Log End Line)), and then delete everything up to the email address (this almost always show if you are forwarding an email). The Pepsi Generation and Things are Better With Coke sold customers on buying a soft drink that would include the buyer in a cool and improved generation. These are examples of companies whose messages inspire customers to buy a product by tapping into a known core desire of their market. The savvy entrepreneur has a deep understanding of what drives his market on a psychological level. He knows about his markets needs, interests, passions, anxieties and yearnings from personal experience and market research. While the product or service must meet his needs for solving a problem, it also must satisfy a psychological need to the customer of what that product represents. Entrepreneurs and Leaders Whove Used Storytelling to Influence their Audience Many famous people like Bill Clinton, Martin Luther King and Steve Jobs are well-known for using compelling stories to inspire their audiences. Their success didnt come from merely being the best at what they did. It came from providing their audience with a vision of the goal and the feeling of becoming a part of a cause. The ability to weave a tale is among the most powerful elements in any leaders repertoire. Build Momentum For Your Product Creating âYOUR Storyâ Before crafting your story, ask yourself: âWho is my audience and what is my goal?â People are attracted to new products or services that fill a need, and make and improve the quality of their life. The reason you tell a âbusiness storyâ may be quite different from the reason you tell a story at a party, but great story tellerâs use the same basic techniques. Daniel Pink, author of Drive: The Surprising Truth About What Motivates Us, writes, âRight-brain dominance is the new source of competitive advantage.â Tapping the right side of the brain allows for deeper engagement by uniting an idea with an emotion. So whatâs the best way to do this? Learn the techniques on how to tell a compelling story. Pink says that no matter who youâre trying to influence, youâll need to âstart with a deep understanding of your audience, and ensure your story has a clear and powerful meaning â" to them. Then you can set to work honing it for maximum impact.â In the case of launching a new business the more you know about your target population the better you can craft a story that will appeal to their sensibilities. To succeed at this, you need to be knowledgeable about your market, their challenges and the desired life they wantbefore you launch your business! What Business Journalists Say About Storytelling Pattie Sellers, Senior Editor at Large for Fortune Magazine, encourages entrepreneurs to tell their story and to make it authentic. She says in her YouTube, âTell Your Own Storyâ that storytelling via social media is useful for people now more than ever, as you have the opportunity through social media to tell your story at length. The Doâs and Donâts in Storytelling Dont come off as flat and dry. Lists of your businesss features and benefits are boring. Instead, create a variety of brief stories that showcase why your product will enhance your customers lives. If you need some inspiration, try listening to great speakers and influential leaders who tell stories in their speeches. Steve Jobs, Oprah Winfrey, Susan Cain, Sheryl Sandberg, Salman Khan, Conan Oâ Brien, JK Rowling, Dick Costolo are a few who inspire their audience beginning with a great story in their commencement speeches. Are you working smart online - Hire Imaging Unless youâve been hibernating in a cave, you know that the Internet is here to stay. It continually evolves and has become the heart and soul of communications, shall we say. In your job search, it can be your friend or your enemy. It all depends on your line of attack. What the Internet is terrific for Research Finding and connecting with people (particularly through professional and social networking sites) Gathering tips, tricks and blog/article information related to the job hunt or employment landscape A smidge â" yes smidge, of actually finding jobs. What the Internet is not terrific for Finding or getting jobs The reality Job boards are tempting and enticing. They typically are stocked with lots of tools, resources and tips to keep you there. Be honest with yourself. Have you ever wasted hours surfing the World Wide Web? Perhaps the better part of a day? Job boards can steal your precious time. Yes, you need to spend some of your time on job boards. But proceed with caution. The truth is that many jobs are never posted online. Why? Time. Money. The big job boards are expensive. Many smaller companies canât afford to use them. Smaller job boards, especially niche ones, can be wonderful for companies. The challenge here is that many companies simply donât have the time or in-house expertise to find the niche sites and post jobs with them. Your perfect job may never hit the Internet. The conundrum Yes, 89% of companies use LinkedIn and other Internet sites to prescreen candidates. But your chances of actually fining your next job on the Internet are about 10% to 20%. Companies want you in the database just in case you are right for them. Youâll have to jump through extensive hoops to apply online with them â" always hoping theyâll have the right job for you someday. This certainly is advantageous to the companies. For you? Not so much. Your time is better spent elsewhere. When to jump on it Donât let the boards steal your time. There are some exceptions; some situations where you should go for it. Youâre applying for a specific job and you are really well qualified for the job. Define well qualified by having 8 out of the 10 skills asked for. Yes, thatâs a lot. Reality check again. Youâre up against purple squirrels. If you can, use your networking to find out more about that position before you waste one minute applying online. The company is on your top five list and you really want to work for them. Frankâs black hole lesson My client Frank learned the hard way. When he came to me, he knew the statistics (close to 80% of people find jobs through people they know; and only 5%-15% through the job boards). But poor Frank could not pry himself away from hours of surfing, finding a job he âmight likeâ and then blasting his resume out in cyberspace. Hereâs where he was coming from. âI donât have a network,â he told me. âI really donât know anyone here, and no one will want to help me, so why ask?â As a result, he had wasted four months since being laid off. He had done nothing but chase opportunities on the Internet. And hereâs the interesting part. Frank said he felt very productive doing this. Searching and applying. And he did get some interviews! The problem was that they always fell apart. He realized that they werenât solid. They were extremely competitive because everyone and his uncle had seen them. He never got to second base beyond the screening interview. So, Frank and I coached on building his network. Once he started networking and realized that he did know people, he found a job opportunity through his network within three weeks. It was a great fit and thatâs where he is now.
