Hustle is for amateurs (do these 8 things instead)

Hustle is for amateurs (do these 8 things instead)Hustle is for amateurs (do these 8 things instead)Some spastic guy on Youtube, eyes bulging, frantically swears hustle is the solution to all your problems. If hustle isnt bringing you results, you must not be hustling enough, he chants. So you GO, GO, GO nowhere. What are you supposed to do? Dare you argue with this infallible internet expert? After all, not just anyone can post a video on YouTube But something inside you screams, This is miserable If this is successI dont want it. There has to be a better way.Good news. Youre right.Hustle is for amateurs. Here are 8 reasons why (and what you should do to go pro).Hustle measures input. frs measure output. You get what you measure. - AnonymousI hate listening to insecure high achievers try to one-up each other about who is hustling more. There is no prize for hustle. We work for results. In the early stages of pursuing a goal, you may not have much to show for your work, and thats fine. Bu t even here, celebrate the tasks youcomplete. Not how little you sleep or how long you work.Inefficiency is not something to brag about.Dude, I stayed up all night writing a blog post. I could barely keep my eyes open. HustleThats absurd. Try this Dude, I got a good nights sleep and wrote a blog post in one hour this morning. EfficientHow to Go zum besten von Dont measure how hard you work. Measure how much you get done.Hustle is based on fear. Pros trust themselves. Our doubts are traitors, and make us lose the good we oft might win, by fearing to attempt. ? William Shakespeare, Measure for MeasureAt its core, hustle is an inability to say No. And one of the biggest causes of indecisiveness is self-doubt.People who cant say No are fearful. They dont trust themselves to make the right decisions. So they always say Yes.They think, If I do absolutely everything possible and still fail, it wont be my fault. But success doesnt usually hinge on one decision. It comes from making mostly good decisions over time. And heres the thing. You are going to fail. Absolutely every successful person does. Because people who keep failing (and learning) eventually succeed. How to Go Pro Trust yourself to make good decisions and to learn from the bad ones. Be prepared to forgive yourself for the mistakes you are certain to make.Hustle is not habit forming.Successful people are simply those with successful habits. - Brian TracyIt was a sweaty evening in Choctaw, Oklahoma when the best golfer Ive ever played with told me the key to a great round. He explained, You dont need to hit seventy good shots. You need to hit one good shot seventy times. His point was clear. Invest in the fundamentals until your habits are engines of success.Hustle might move you forward, but it doesnt set you up for sustainable success. Good habits are formed through consistency and repetition, not mindless effort. So play the long game. Ask yourself, If I could wish for any skill I wanted, what would I choose?Th en, practice your way to proficiency. How to Go Pro Get really good at what matters most, even if it means doing less.Hustle leads to burnout (the 1 cause of ultimate failure).Pain is temporary. Quitting lasts forever. - Lance ArmstrongDo you have big goals you long to achieve? The biggest threat to your success is giving up too soon.Thats not just my opinion. In oneresearch study, Dr. Angela Duckworth found that Grit, perseverance and passion for long-term goals, predicted success better than any other predictor. It makes sense. No one who quits a goal achieves it.And in my experience, were exponentially more likely to give up than we are to encounter a truly insurmountable obstacle.Heres why this mattersIf sticking with your goals is a top predictor of success, and quitting logically leads to failure, you need to be careful with strategies that will tempt you to quit.Strategy is a generous way to describe hustle, but the point remains. Hustle leads to burnout. Burnout leads to bail out.How to go pro Dont maximize effort and tempt yourself to quit. Maximize sustainability - a true predictor of success.Hustle forgets the big picture, jeopardizing where youll end up.If you dont know where you are going, any road will get you there. - Lewis CarrollThe Hobbittells the story of 13 dwarves, a wizard, and a hobbit named Bilbo, who set off in search of a lonely mountain fortress. The journey beckons the adventurers into a dense forrest, where they find themselves helplessly lost. With giant, venomous spiders closing in, Bilbo shimmies up a tall tree, pokes his head through the leaves, and spots the Lonely Mountain in the clear evening light. This simple act of pausing gives Bilbo the big picture. Its the difference between wandering lost and marching with aim.Hustle might get you somewhere, but is it where you want to go? Pause to locate the best paths to your destination. How to Go Pro Dont hustle your way into a life you hate. Filter your choices through your values an d your goals. Say No to bad fits.Hustle overlooks the need for systems, which slows growth by constraining capacity.A good system shortens the road to the goal. - Orison Swett MardenIn college, I worked retail, and one day I sold jeans to an entrepreneur whos now making $8 million per year.He told me, Im always experimenting. And when I find something thats worth doing, I create a system and either automate or delegate the task. Then I go do more experiments.Hustlers dont think like my insanely successful friend.Hustlers find something thats working and add it to their daily to-do list.Pros automate or delegate.Pros wonder, Could I pay someone else to schedule my blog posts and social media?Could a knowledge base reduce the number of customer support emails I receive? How to Go Pro Value your time as the engine of your growth. Protect it by creating systems and automating or delegating.Hustle hurts productivity (and quality). We overestimate what we can accomplish in a day and undere stimate what we can accomplish in a year. - Kevin KaiserPeople who are overworked underperform. In factThe Harvard Business Review arguesthat, according to research, people who overwork themselves with long hours dont seem to actually accomplish more than people who work less.To me, thats a massive waste - time spent working without getting anything done.Imagine what you could be doing with that timePerhaps your biggest opportunity cost is rest, which would prepare you for greater productivity tomorrow.Which is better Working 12 hours one day and sleeping at your desk the next day? Or just working 8 hours both days? How to Go Pro You are not a robot. Treat your mind and body with respect by taking time to rest.Hustle reinvents the wheel. Pros build on what works.Dont reinvent the wheel, just realign it. - Anthony J. DAngeloAt the task level, this looks like trying to teach yourself web design instead of using a WordPress theme or hiring someone who knows what theyre doing. At the s tartup level, reinventing the wheel takes the form of chasing after unclear visions instead of investing your time in proven models.A great example of NOT reinventing the wheel? Caviar. No, not the fish eggs The food delivery service.Caviar was founded in 2012 by a team of entrepreneurs who wanted tocompete in the food delivery space. Rather than trying to reinvent the model, they sought to becomea curated Seamless by only working with restaurants that had at least 4 stars on Yelp. This simple realignment of the wheel worked. In 2015, according tothis Caviar review, the company was acquired by Square for arumored $90 million. Not bad for three years work (Heres where to find aCaviar coupon codeif you want to see the service in action.)How to Go Proneuschpfung is awesome, but for entrepreneurs whose primary goal is to start a successful business, dont chase after nebulous ideas when you can reverse engineer something that works.ConclusionImagine an expert consultant telling you, Ive spo tted a bad habit thats hurting your productivity, focus, and efficiency - plus its tempting you to give up.Would you want to make a change?Research and common sense say hustle is one such habit. Is hard work important? Absolutely. Its irreplaceable. But hustle is hard work done stupid.Go pro with the tips from this post.Want to go deeper?Do you have big goals you long to achieve? The biggest threat to your success is simply giving up.Become a finisher with my short bookQuitterProof The 5 Beliefs of Highly Successful People.Download your free copy right here.Kyle Youngis helping creative people achieve big goals that matter.

Shocking survey highlights hair based discrimination in the workplace

Shocking survey highlights hair based discrimination in the workplaceShocking survey highlights hair based discrimination in the workplaceIn order to effectively unpack the impact of hair based biases in a professional setting, CROWN conducted a massive research survey of 2,000 American women between the ages of 25 and 64.Creating a Respectful and Open World for Natural Hair, or the CROWN Coalitionis an organization co-founded by DOVE, that intends to end race-based discrimination in the workplace. Alongside the personal care brand, the coalition is composed of founding members of the National Urban League, Color of Change, and the Western Center on Law and Poverty.Follow Ladders on FlipboardFollow Ladders magazines on Flipboard covering Happiness, Productivity, Job Satisfaction, Neuroscience, and moraThis ground-breaking research provides evidence of what we have always knownanecdotally that black women experience discrimination in the workplace due to their natural hair. We are ral lying ur leaders, policy-makers and our communities to engage on this important issue, said Marc Morial, CEO of the National Urban League. The key findingsHairstyles that bear a strong association with the African American community, namely locks, braids, and Bantu knots were consistently ranked the lowest for job readiness. However, when participants were shown pictures of white women and black women, sporting the same hairstyles, white women were found to be 25% more likely to be deemed job-ready than black women, even when the hairstyles were exactly the same.Black professionals were 30% more likely to receive a formal grooming policy in the workplace, at both the application process and the orientation phase. African American women additionally reported being 80% more likely to change their natural hair to accommodate social expectations and norms at work and by and large, women of color reported fearing scrutiny and discrimination when expressing their natural beauty in the work place significantly more than the other respondents. This year the New York City Commission on Human Rights, instituteda law that precludes biases based on hairstyles by employers and schools. The commission said they were motivated by a desire to repudiate the notion that traditional black hairstyles are as a rule hygienic, messy or simply not suited for a professional setting.More recently CROWN and Dove came together to fund The CROWN Act, which recently passed the CaliforniaSenate. The bill aims to ensure traits historically associated with race, such as hair texture and style, will be protectedfrom discrimination in the workplace and in charter/public schools. The bill is on route to be reviewed by the CaliforniaAssembly this year. Esi Eggleston Bracey, who is the Executive Vice President, and chief operating Officer at Doves parent company, is both motivated and disheartened by the results of the recent research study. Braceyexplained,As this research highlights, there is more work to be done, but we are committed to ensuring each and every one of us sees ourselves as beautiful and celebrates our diverse array of shapes, sizes, skin tones, ethnicities, hair textures, and styles and more. You might also enjoyNew neuroscience reveals 4 rituals that will make you happyStrangers know your social class in the first seven words you say, study finds10 lessons from Benjamin Franklins daily schedule that will double your productivityThe worst mistakes you can make in an interview, according to 12 CEOs10 habits of mentally strong people
